A San Jose family's labor of love

Yolanda's family didn't open City Diner to chase a trend, they opened it because they believed great food and a warm seat should be available to everyone. That belief is still running the kitchen today. City Diner is family-owned and family-run in every sense. Yolanda leads operations and marketing, keeping the heart of the diner beating and making sure the community knows they always have a seat at our table. Her kids run the day-to-day, greeting regulars by name, keeping the plates coming, and carrying the family's warmth into every shift. When you eat with us, you're not just a customer, you're part of the family we've built here in San Jose.

Born in Almaden Valley

City Diner planted their first roots in the Almaden Valley neighborhood, building a loyal following one honest plate at a time. It was a family operation from day one — and it still is.

The move to Monterey Road

In 2008, their original location was demolished for a shopping center — but Yolanda was not done. They packed up their recipes and reopened on Monterey Road, and the community followed right behind them.

A diner that feels like home

Step inside and you'll find checkerboard floors, movie posters on every wall, and booths that invite you to stay a little longer. The retro atmosphere isn't a costume — it's just how City Diner has always been.

Food with real range

Stacked burgers and all-day breakfast sit alongside teriyaki chicken and tostadas — because South San Jose doesn't fit in a single box. Big portions, real ingredients, something for everyone.
